I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of

His Majesty's Treasury Sir G. Grindle's letter of the

26th November last (CF 18179/26), relative to the Hong

Kong bronze one cent piece, which now costs the Hong

Kong Government more than its face value.

After consultation with the Royal Mint, My

Lords direct me to request you to inform Mr. Secretary

Amery that They concur in the proposal to reduce the

size of this coin, without changing the alloy of which

it is made. They assume that the Hong Kong Government

is satisfied that no difficulty will arise from the

concurrent circulation of bronze pieces of the same face

value but of different sizes and that it will not be

necessary, as it would certainly be costly, to withdraw

the large pieces now in circulation.

I am to enclose an extract from a Report by

the Deputy Master of the Mint, suggesting the size and
